Mummers Plays for Schools and Community Events

Mumming is a traditional form of community celebration where ordinary folks dress up and take the roles of favorite folkloric characters. Best known of the old time mummers’ plays is “St. George & the Dragon,” from pre-Shakespearean England. Costumes drop right over street clothes, and the rhymed parts are read from wooden paddles.
